Reflection: I found this project to be extremely beneficial. While I found it quite time consuming to document my entire literature unit, in the future I will appreciate the fact that all of my materials are in the same location. I also appreciated exploring new technology pieces to add to my unit while encouraging students to feel comfortable using technology.
Prior to enrolling in this course I felt like I used a variety of technology tools in my classroom. However, throughout this course I have learned countless new pieces of technology to implement in my classroom while learning new ways to use some of the technology sites I was already using with my students. I now feel more confident and understand the value of using technology in the classroom after engaging in this course.
Implementation: While I did not implement all of the components of this literature unit with fidelity, I did use several of the pieces I created with my students and look forward to using the entire unit in the future. My students loved creating their tribute for Stella using Pixlr. I have used Accelerated Reader for comprehension checks and iPods for fluency all school year so my students were extremely comfortable with these tools.
I had several challenges when allowing my students to use MoveNote to create their book review. My students were not familiar with MoveNote and I wanted them to explore all the tools and creatively develop their own book review, meeting the desired requirements, without step by step instructions from the teacher. However, several of my students are perfectionists and therefore wanted their MoveNote presentation to be 'right' so they struggled with being creative with a tool they have never used before. In the future, I will model how to use the the tools in MoveNote prior to assigning the book review.
